North Shore Auxiliary

On the North Shore some 50 volunteers of the CCGA units 1 and 2 (Howe Sound & Deep Cove) provide an on-call response for marine emergencies in surrounding waters in all seas and weather conditions.

When a call-out is received the lifeboats are generally underway within 20 minutes from pager call-out. Crew complement is a coxswain plus 2-3 crew.

Volunteers receive ongoing training in marine Search and Rescue techniques and skills, day / night / all weather boating operation and navigation, and boating safety and first aid.

Volunteers match or exceed Canadian Coast Guard standards as often as possible, and participate in joint training exercises with them.
