Lifeboat Asset Management
Although the lifeboats (Howe Sound/Deep Cove) have been in service since the early 1980’s, the vessels remain a sound platform and have a remaining hull life to 2010.With the intensive SAR usage the normal life span of the engines and equipment on the vessels is within this period.
The Society maintains a matrix of all the vessel components and equipment showing the age and status of the assets for use in asset management and planning.
From 2003-2005 the Society has completed a “service life extension” program totaling $164,000 to re-power and upgrade the Auxiliary 1 and Deep Cove Lifeboats. This program is funded through a program of provincial grants and major corporate and foundation sponsors.
The society maintains an ongoing program to attract the sponsorship of sponsors with an interest in supporting marine safety, boating and marine SAR to support the refit program that makes up the greater part of the Society’s financial requirements.

The Society’s long-term plan is to replace the hulls of the lifeboats in the 2010 period.
The Society will begin accumulating fund starting in 2005 to replace the Auxiliary 1 lifeboat in time for the Vancouver 2010 Olympics.
