Projects

The North Shore Lifeboat Society has a number of active projects we take on each year with Capital Projects spanning over multiple years in order to secure funding.

Vessel Replacement Project

Falkins Class Lifeboat
CCGA-P Falkin's Class Vessel

The North Shore Lifeboat Society has been raising funds since 2007 part of our Vessel Replacement Project.

Auxiliary 1 - Replacement vessel ordered for delivery Q1 2012

Auxiliary 2 - Replacement vessel ordered for delivery Q1 2012

These vessels built by Titan Inflatables in Sidney, BC are state of the art search and rescue platforms and have been architected by various stations in the region to meet our functional requirements. They are valued at approximatly 1/2 million dollars each and we have secured 90% of the overall funding for this project.

Project Status: Fundraising in Progress: Auxiliary 1 (West Vancouver): Delivery for Q1-2012 / Fundraising Complete for Auxiliary 2 (North Vancouver): Delivery for Q1-2012

AED Project

Lifepak CR+
Medtronic Lifepak CR+ Automated External Defibrillator

As professionals in the field, we saw a need to carry AED's on both of our dedicates response vessels. We get a number of calls each year involving cardiac arrest where these units may be beneficial to patients.

Using a grant from the Province of British Columbia we have purchased two Medtronic Lifepak CR+ units as well as a trainer unit and are currently developing a training curriculum for our crews.

Medical Equipment Refresh

Medical Equipment

Ferno Scoop EXL

As first responders it is a requirement that we maintain our equipment and refresh consumables on a regular basis. This year we completed a refresh on both our vessels of medical/first aid supplies.

We value our partnership with other organizations such as North Shore Rescue and BC Ambulance and maintain good working relationships with them. In consultation with these partner agencies, we were able to upgrade several pieces of equipment using a grant from the Province of British Columbia.

Salvage Pump Replacement
Honda Pump

There are several calls per year of vessels taking on water due to a breach of the hull and our crews are tasked to respond. We have standardized on Honda water pumps for this task and on occasion used as a fire pump.

During a tasking in Summer 2010, our crews were called to a 45ft pleasure craft taking on water after striking a rock. Our crews were successful in refloating this vessel but in the process destroyed our pump. We received a kind donation from the underwriters of the vessel we saved to replace this pump and refurbish another older one so we have a spare.

In addition we have a volunteer who has taken on our Pump Maintenance Program and will ensure these pumps are serviced on a regular basis.

Project Status: Completed August, 2010

Engine Replacement

Verado
Mercury Marine Verado 200 engines
Due to an unfortunate accident on our vessel, Auxiliary 1, we were forced to claim insurance for our engines and electrical systems. Our dealership installed the latest generation Verado 4-stroke engines and completed several replacements of equipment and electrical which was compromised by salt water.
